Mindful Community Trauma Counseling’s focus is helping you get to the root of your trauma and help you transcend your experiences. We are here for you.

Heal from the inside out.

Maryland and Delaware residents, I am currently accepting new individual telehealth therapy clients.

I specialize in working with adults who have experienced trauma, alcoholism/addiction and codependency/relationship challenges. Are you new to therapy and don’t know where to start? At the beginning of treatment, we will work together to develop treatment goals for the course of therapy.  Progress with these goals in mind will be routinely discussed throughout treatment and revised as frequently as necessary.

Trauma

In order to treat the negative thoughts, beliefs and somatic and symptoms that result from trauma, I use Eye-Movement Desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness, inner-child work and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Trauma fuels mental illness and if we can desensitize past trauma, your overall well-being will be improved. We may not always desensitize your triggers down to a 0, but if there is anything we can do to lower your reactions, progress will be made! The pace is up to you in therapy, as you are in charge and know your needs better than anyone. I am always open to feedback and am happy to dive in, or scale back to your comfort level in treatment.

Alcoholism/Addictions

In order to treat addictions I have a foundation in Motivational Interviewing and use Eye-Movement Desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to reduce triggers. I can meet you wherever you are on the path to recovery and understand that different people need different things. I treat substance use disorders, workaholism, as well as sex and love addictions. I believe in the harm-reduction model and that addiction is a disease rather than a moral failing. In many cases substances keep one alive until resources like therapy are available. Once a client has stabilized from the throws of active use, we focus on getting to the root of these challenges. Addictions usually stem from traumatic childhood memories, trans-generational alcoholism and family of origin dysfunction. The goal is to help bring anxiety and depression levels down, so that one can foster a sustained recovery.

Codependency/Relationship Challenges:

In order to treat relational problems like codependency, I have a foundation in the Family Systems Model, which has been adapted from the Bowenian Approach, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and John Bradshaw’s inner-child work. Together we address family dysfunction by boundary setting, breaking triangulation patterns, differentiating the self and reducing multigenerational transmissions.

Insurance

In-Network: Aetna

Out-of-network: I provide super-bills so that you can submit directly to your insurance for reimbursement

Self-pay: I offer a sliding scale rate for therapy depending upon your needs.

Grow in the direction of your goals.

I provide individual and group supervision to Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors (LGPCs) under the guidance of Maryland’s counseling requirements. Are you a new therapist, looking to complete a counseling internship, join a private practice and become an LCPC? Look no further! We would love to give back some of the knowledge, experience, strength and hope that we have been blessed with over the years!

There is value in humility and no one knows everything! I am grateful for the opportunity to teach what I know and also learn from supervisees. The beauty in this field is that we have the ability to craft various modalities, techniques and styles into a healing medley that transcends the medical model. Community support and nurturing leadership is woven into the fabric of our value system and we hope to exchange and integrate you into our functional, occupational family! I look forward to growing alongside you, and helping in any way I can, on this bend, in the path of your journey.

EMDR Consultation

EMDR is an evidence-based trauma modality the enables clients to reprocess memories, regulate somatic symptoms of anxiety in the body and cognitively rewires connections in the brain. The use of bilateral stimulation helps lessen the lasting impact of triggers, emotional re-experiencing and visual flashbacks. This approach contains many difficult protocols depending upon the mental health condition(s) and can be used in conjunction with other treatment modalities.

As a Consultant in Training I provide individual and group consultation to clinicians working toward EMDR certification through EMDRIA. I have the ability to virtually provide 15 of the 20 required hours.
